You can give this one a pass. Half the movie is squandered on cocktail parties and the two love interests. Too much focus on the love story; Gertrude's travels, archeological work, and interactions with the Bedouin aren't given the detailed account they deserve. The cringe-worthy dialogue doesn't help, either. However, Kidman delivers a decent performance. Overall, the cinematography is praiseworthy and there are some stunning shots of the open desert, coupled with hauntingly beautiful background music for effect. Unfortunately, these are few and far between, and certainly are not enough to redeem the rest of the film on their own. If you fancy watching a movie with desert themes, I recommend Bertolucci's "The Sheltering Sky". - @Tuesday, April 12, 2016 9:16 PM
