A fight on Everest? It seemed incredible. But in 2013 news channels around the world reported an ugly brawl at 6400 m (21,000 ft) as European climbers fled a mob of angry Sherpas. In 1953, New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay had reached the summit in a spirit of co-operation and brave optimism. Now climbers and Sherpas were trading insults - even blows. What had happened to the happy, smiling Sherpas and their dedication in getting foreigners to the top of the mountain they hold so sacred? Determined to explore what was going on, the filmmakers set out to make a film of the 2014 Everest climbing season, from the Sherpas' point of view. Instead, they captured a tragedy that would change Everest forever. At 6.45am on 18th April, 2014, a 14,000 ton block of ice crashed down onto the climbing route through the Khumbu Icefall, killing 16 Sherpas. It was the worst tragedy in the history of Everest. The disaster provoked a drastic reappraisal about the role of the Sherpas ...

Finally a film about the real bad asses of Mt. Everest. Most of these foreign climbers couldn't have done w/out the sherpas. - @Friday, March 2, 2018 4:20 AM

The Nepali Sherpas are nothing short of angels with clipped wings. They put their lives at risk every single time they guide, build, fix ropes, ascend and descend the big ones K2 (HARDER than Everest/technical climb) and of course the most famous of all....EVEREST. These men are the most decent, kind, hard working, genuine and strong men on earth. To see documentaries about them ie.”with a mountain on my back” and “Sherpa” and all the other phenomenal docs from the Himalayas.....you get a chance to see humanity at its best, strength beyond measure, and real honest bonds forging between climbers and their Sherpa guides that most often end up spanning a whole lifetime. It’s a different bond than your “best buddy” back at home.. this Sherpa climber bond is stronger than the mountain climbs, stronger than any other bond you’ll make in life. So thank you for bringing this doc to fruition and although many heart breaking scenes and stories and news releases have come from Everest within the last few years, the determination witnessed is something that help show the rest of us what SELFLESS people are truly like. These men are all Angels with clipped wings - @Sunday, December 17, 2017 3:11 PM

If only westerners can treat the Sherpas like Hillary and Tenzing, they refused to reveal who stepped on the summit first, and they have became close. - @Tuesday, October 25, 2016 9:40 AM

The ignorance of these western people is incredible! Just one had the respect of accepting to cancel. It makes me angry once again, this world of capitalists needs to crumble!!! Peoples lives are lost and the only thing these "clients" do is cry they will not see the top of a mountain??? (lets not even speak about the things they were saying!!!) Carry your own fucking gear up there 's nobody stopping you... but that is something that they do not even consider....image a western rich boy carrying his own stuff up there? - @Tuesday, August 16, 2016 11:47 AM

The sherpas have always been treated as quasi slaves by their westener counterparts.Somebody who is poorly paid, risk their lives everyday to bring them hot towels and books to read in 5000 meters. And when they demand dignity and respect for what they do and stop for one season an expedition that killed 16 of them, they were blamed terrorist and "sherpa millitants" by their "owner".Trully sad how people think they own the dignity of someone because they payed some money. Its sad that they are so poor so that they can be easilly bought by those smug idiots.Hope they shut down that thing for good. - @Thursday, May 26, 2016 10:46 PM

Finally sherpas side of the story. Ive talked so several others Nepali working in Malaysia. They feel that westerners always look down on them while they do all the things to secure them to the peak and ascent safely. and I quote " This western people they go up Everest for ego and pride and for what? Hundreds people have died especially sherpas and porters, leaving behind family and kids undone. They are crazy people. Feeding their ego" - Bal - @Thursday, May 5, 2016 7:23 AM

It's always great to see good old american hunger of money. Discovery made the Sherpas look bad after they refused to climb because deaqth of their people and made a hero from the mountaneering corporation owner, a butcher who pays the shit money to people who risk their lives for him. Not because they want to, but because they have to. He was mad at Sherpas because one year he couldn't drag few idiots to the summit on the Sherpas backs and cash them up. - @Thursday, April 28, 2016 3:46 AM

The rich American asshole is why the world hates Americans "their owners" like the Sherpa's are slaves and "terrorists" because they don't want to carry his shit up the mountain after 16 people died. What a fucking ASSHOLE. - @Monday, April 25, 2016 9:55 AM
