This chilling fable about the rise of fascism in the 20th Century tells the story of a young American boy living in France in 1918 whose father is working for the US government on the creation of the Treaty of Versailles. What he witnesses helps to mould his beliefs - and we witness the birth of a terrifying ego. Loosely inspired by the early childhood experiences of many of the great dictators of the 20th Century and infused with the same sense of dread as The Others and The Omen, The Childhood of a Leader is an ominous portrait of emerging evil.

This is definitely one of the 5 best movies I've seen this decade, the fact that it's the guy's first movie is insane. (I heard him in an interview say he started writing it 10 years ago, and he's 28 now, which makes it even more impressive). The soundtrack is probably the best I've heard in a while, the cinematography is stunning and all the main actors are great. Robert Pattinson was unexpectedly good too, he's not in it very much but when he is in it he's kind of fascinating to watch, and I'm not someone who's particularly interested in him generally - @Tuesday, August 23, 2016 8:01 PM
