When nine-year-old Rob Cole felt the life force slipping from his mother's hand he could not foresee that this terrifying awareness of impending death was a gift that would lead him from the familiar life of 11th-century London to small villages throughout England and finally to the medical school at Ispahan. Though apprenticed to an itinerant barber surgeon, it is the dazzling surgery of a Jewish physician trained by the legendary Persian physician Avicenna that inspires him to accept his gift and to commit his life to healing by studying at Avicenna's school. Despite the ban on Christian students, Rob goes there, disguising himself as a Jew to gain admission. Gordon has written an adventurous and inspiring tale of a quest for medical knowledge pursued in a violent world full of superstition and prejudice.

The reason why movies like this are problematic is because of the current political climate and the propaganda surrounding the topic of Muslims in the western world. Muslims are almost always portrayed in a bad light, and those of us who are considered the "good" or “normal" ones in tv/film often completely forsake their religious and cultural values in favor of western ones. I really hope and pray more Muslims support Muslim screenwriters and directors because no one is going to tell a fair story about us unless we do it ourselves. Also Muslims never kicked anyone out of anywhere smh. It is a Great movie and should have gained more attention than it did. But it is only a movie and should not be viewed or reviewed as a historical documentary. It contains many historical facts and also some fictions. Ibn Sina (Avicenna), a Persian physician and one of the greatest scientist of all times, who's book "The Canon of medicine" was standard text book in all western medical universities as late as 18th century is reduced to a surgical assistant to his english young student, which was quite funny. On the good side, it portraits almost a realistic view of the historical Persian city of Isfahan, in which, Jews, Muslims, Zoroastrians, Persians and Arabs etc, lived in peace at side of each other. As far as the history has recorded, even christians were welcomed in this society. Christians of Armenian and Assyrian descent and Jews are still part of Iranian (Persian) society with strong Iranian Identity. - @Monday, June 4, 2018 9:54 PM

One of the biggest dodgy story of humanity based on fake history. The hideous godless plot behind this twisted story is very clear. 1. Ibn Sina wasn't a great Scientist rather a nameless British Christian or Jews Doctor taught him everything he gave this world. 2. Muslim learned science from Roman and Greek philosophers like Socratics and Aristotle. 3. Ibn Sina committed suicide as a failed personality. 4. Western World didn't steal Muslims Science from Span's Granada Library and Laboratory, rather they crossed over deadly desert to learn from them. 5.
